DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS

"Captain James H Harvey III distinguished himself by extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight over enemy held territory on 16 October 1950. Captain Harvey safely led the second element of a four (4) ship F-80 close support fighter bomber mission under extremely hazardous weather conditions to attack enemy troops which were dug in on hill 209 approximately three (3) miles northwest of Yongsan, Korea and endangering United Nation Forces. When the assigned controller could not be contacted, a blind call was made in an effort to locate one in need of fighters. A ground controller finally made contact with the flight and although the ceiling was overcast at eight hundred (800) feet, the flight found the target and rocketed and strafed the objective until all ammunition had been expended, inflicting heavy casualties upon the enemy. The flight was rejoined and returned safely to base. The technique and skill displayed by Captain Harvey under adverse weather conditions coupled by his aggressiveness in the face of the enemy reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force."
